Moon Cake Season
Well, they are all over the place, including here at the border between HK and China.
THEY are moon cakes ... Traditionally eaten at Mid Autumn Festival or Moon Festival and also known as Lantern Festival!
One of the traditions is to present moon cakes to relatives. But we have received them as gifts from friends and The Peninsula make such yummy ones, which we give to some of our friends too. We really like them and look forward to this time of the year very much.
Was up in Shenzhen today with some girlfriends and passed by boxes and boxes of these. We've already got our Peninsula ones ... can't wait to tuck into them.
They are traditionally made with a pastry covering filled with lotus paste and an egg yolk in the centre which signifies the full moon. Nowadays there are several versions of moon cakes including Haagen Dazs ice cream ones and Godiva chocolate ones.
