5275 Pipes

Hallgrimskirkja Lutheran parish church, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Reykjavik, is an easy five-minute walk from our apartment. The church was designed by Samuel Gudjón in 1937. Construction began in 1946 and was completed in 1986.

We'd already walked by the church previously, but today we went inside and were lucky enough to hear this beautiful organ being played. The organ, designed and constructed by Johannes Klais of Bonn, has 72 stops and 5275 pipes, and sounds as good as it looks.

Although there were lots of tourists in the church it was very peaceful and serene -- a good beginning to our day.
