It's best to do the annual, rot-preventing oiling of the sill between outside and inside when the weather is warm and the air is dry. There were no days like that last year and the oiling was not done, even though it was needed more than in other years. There've been lots of days like that this year, so why did I start the job on the day that the forecasters told us was the last before autumn?
I stopped part way through because I liked the way the oil made the dark reddish wood reflect sky-blue.
