Herculaneum

The remains of the city of Herculaneum are very different from those of Pompeii. They cover a more compact area but many of the buildings are better preserved. Some still have roofs and many of the frescoes are still in place. This a picture of what is called the " grand taberna" or big shop which is part of a collection of shops....a bit like a shopping centre.
The large pots in the marble counter would probably have contained some kind of food product for sale
