Up The Buttress
'Up the Buttress' is a timed hill climb for lunatic cyclists.
Starting from the ancient packhorse bridge in the centre of Hebden Bridge the short 400 yard course heads directly up a road named ‘The Buttress’. The rules are simple – fastest time to the top is the winner.
BUT the Buttress is an ancient cobbled packhorse road that is so steep it has a hand rail for pedestrians because it has a gradient of 1 in 4 in parts. Even walking up (and down) it is a real task.
I believe a time of somewhere in the region of 3 to 4 minutes for the climb is quite respectable.
I was happy to blip from the sidelines :-)
