Underside of the Greig Street footbridge, in Inverness. Taken from a kayak whilst waiting for hundreds of little yellow plastic ducks to find their way down the River Ness. Sponsor your numbered duck, and if it's one of the first six to cross the line, you'll win a prize. After the first six are established, it's time to collect all the the rest before they're swept out to sea. My kayak was filled to overflowing with them - twice.
We (a few kayakers, the sub-aqua club, and the sea scouts) were providing safety cover for the Great River Ness Raft and Duck Race. Sounds a lot grander than it is. A great fun day for those taking part, and those watching. Not a great number of participants this year - just fifteen teams (of four) on rafts. The dire weather in the morning prior to the event, heavy rain and windy, perhaps put off some of the spectators numbers too. A shame. Hope they do better next year. Could also have done with a few more of our number (kayakers).
Apologies for the water on the lens - one of the hazards of combining cameras and watersports, especially on a bright day, when you can barely see the screen. Only found out very late in the day that my few snaps were afflicted so. Maybe one day a good quality waterproof camera will be available that isn't enormous. Rumour has it that Nikon may be working on something along the lines of their old Nikonos system, obviously digital rather than film.
