Oughta See a Sea Otter
Sometimes Lady Luck gives you a great big hug and a bag of Werther's Originals, such was today...
Out early enough to get to Neist Point before the hordes arrived (this is pretty much why we started going to the Outer Hebrides, Skye is just... Busy...), and there were three Basking Sharks buzzing about, with Gannets wheeling about overhead, and diving around them.
But it was only to get better... We headed down to Borreraig, wandering down a steep hill beside a hydro electric power station, to a beach renowned for its fossil remains. And then... An Otter....
We crouched and watched him hunting the rock pools, clearly a youngster, oblivious to us 35 yards or so away. He moved closer. We watched. He came closer. And then, ah, recognition. We saw him skirt round us in the water, so in the off chance I clambered on the rocks to a point ahead, looked back and there he was again. In a large rock pool making his way towards me. I motioned Mel over and we watched as again he made his way towards us. But this time the moment of recognition came just five yards from us. Truly fabulous.
Our Hebrides game hunt is going rather well....
