Kookaburra
We saw this Kookaburra tonight perched in the tree he didn't move for such a long time, he must have been stunned that he had caught this huge bug for his dinner! He was making sure no one was going to steal it! Minutes later he flew off.
They have been given the name of The Laughing Kookaburra, due to his distinctive laugh, he was introduced to W.A in the 1800's from the Eastern States, they are pretty widespread all over Australia and Tasmania. A little different in colour than the Blue Winged Kookaburra from Queensland. The Kookaburra is a relative of the Kingfisher family.
He eats small birds, frogs, grubs, and sometimes meat from a BBQ, he bashes his food on the rocks to soften it then swallows it whole!
(The Topic was Rainbow today, but this will be my rainbow blip! No real rain, no real rainbow in Perth)
