Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Bicycling Newport/Balboa Beach Peninsula

This morning we left the house just about 8:00 and cycled along the bike path in front of the beach homes -- I clicked the colorful Adirondack patio chairs as we rolled by and then kept pedaling all the way south to the end of the Newport/Balboa Peninsula. We stopped at the end, known as The Wedge, for a little while to watch the waves as they mildly crashed below some of the homes that are built just above the cliffs across the channel on the Corona Del Mar side. Then we cycled back for part of the way on the bay side of the peninsula -- that's where I clicked the photo of the narrow channel that divides that portion of the peninsula from the private Bay Island that only has a gated foot bridge over to it. Residents of that island have to park their cars in a little designated lot on the peninsula.

Then we stopped at the Balboa Library. Mr. Fun went in to use their computers for just a moment and look for something on the Internet. While he was in there, I clicked the little old house across Balboa Blvd. The house looks like it has been there since the peninsula was first developed many decades ago and now is dwarfed by the newer taller structures.

Then as we cycled north across the Santa Ana River bridge back into Huntington Beach, I captured a quick shot of the river meeting the ocean.

So we accomplished 15 or so miles on the bicycle this morning and that's good. In spite of vacationing, we're still doing well on our diet, with a tiny bit of cheating last night when we each ate a taco salad at the Sawdust Art Festival--it was so yummy. We'll know our weight loss when we get back home at the end of this week to check what our scale reveals.

Hope you're having a good beginning to this second week of August.

P.S. Last night's blip is now uploaded--late, ugh!
