Good Egg

Hot, hot, hot

Backblipping my week in Italy, 4th - 9th if anyone's interested :)

Sorrento; another town of mis-matched rendering and colourful shabbiness, selling its soul for the tourist Euro. Mopeds whizz through and around winding streets; cars ignore zebra crossings, stopping only for those who step into the road; busy and bustling, brumming and beeping. Narrow, cobbled paths are littered with Vesuvius keyrings, Sorrento teacloths and pottery lemons; laminated bi-lingual menus with blurred photos of pizzas and paninis.

But then, stylish signs in local boutiques; washing hanging from third-storey windows and chilli plants dangling from white iron balconies. Scattered exotic greenery in squares and gardens, fallen lemons dotted like flowers in the roadside grass. The view down Corso Italia, the busiest road in the Neopolitan Riviera, a rainbow of four-storey buildings left and right; the bright blue sky above; the distant mountains in the centre, turning the mayhem of an urban scene into a beautiful view.

And houses like this one, full of colour and character. I soon fell for the charm of Sorrento.
