Handsome fella

The weekend plan was to bag the 'Paps of Jura', how ever Saturday started with persisting rain, so we did a bit of a trek out to the Crosses of Kildalton. An amazing roofless chapel full of celtic crosses and carved gravestone. I've never seen so many wonderful genuine carvings in one place before.

Later we dropped in on the Islay Book festival and had an hour in the comp
any of Val McDairmid, she of the 'Wire in the Blood' TV series. I find her kind of writing a little too gory, but as a speaker and a woman out to encourage other writers she is a gem.

In the afternoon we found a nice woodland walk that led to an old woollen mill. The gent was kind enough to show off his weaving loom and told us a few jokes.

So we didn't feel it was too much of a wasted day.
