Renewal

There is a lot of renovation and construction work going on in Edinburgh at the moment. This is the view looking from the Meadows across to the ‘Quartermile District’. The area was the home of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary (which has now been relocated to a new site). The gothic Victorian buildings of the old infirmary look quite austere but are being converted in to expensive apartments marketed to an international clientele. As can been seen from all the cranes, new buildings are also being constructed - to house apartments, offices, and shops. I quite like the area, its blend of old and new and to see how the new spaces are beginning to be used. It has a busy yet relaxed atmosphere.

A day of meetings, but quite pleasurable ones as they were in a beautifully restored old school house, involved interesting discussion and were accompanied by good tea and coffee! Met with a couple of friends for dinner this evening- in another beautifully restored building – this time a hexagonal church! Dusk was falling as I biked home but it was surprisingly warm out.
