Wilderness

This is part of the wild flower bed, a mixture of seeds that were supposed to be bee and butterfly friendly. Initially all that came up were Phacelia and they certainly did what it said on the packet! The heads have been covered with bees all summer, including a great yellow, which was quite a surprise as they are pretty rare beasties.

I thinned out the phacelia to give the rest of the smaller plants a bit of a chance to see the sun and as you see lots of them are now flowering. A terrific show with cornflowers, poppies, nigella, scabious, mallows, corn cockles and many more. So many of the brassicas have succombed to cabbage root fly and the caterpillar attack that it is very tempting to grow less veg and more flowers next year!
