A long time ago, back in the olden days, a quiet, librarian type of girl was set up on a date with a boy. "You'll like him," said her friend, "he's pretty funny." She went on the date and she did like him and he was pretty funny. In fact the more she saw of him the more she realised that no matter where they went she was the girl on the arm of the man who was always the funniest guy in the room. But he wasn't just funny, he was tall and blond and handsome and he was clever and kind.

So she married him.

Twenty long years on and he still hasn't learned to cook, he's worn a big dint into the sofa from watching too much cricket, he has a need to always be the most irritating guy in the room and he grows the dodgiest beards but she still feels just the same way about him as on that first date.
