Staycation Day 2 - In the garden at Parham
The description for yesterday is now up for anyone interested!
Today we headed to Parham House - yep, another house. This one was supposed to be smaller than Petworth but we spent quite a long time here. We foolishly attempted lunch in the open air at a picnic table - however The Wasp Law was in full effect and we soon had to retreat back to the car! Malicious little gits.
The house itself was very nice and had a full Tudor style garden that we were able to explore (which is where I snapped this). The house itself was also from the Tudor era, though it had seen a lot of abuse from the Victorians and a lot had to be restored (including paintings that had been doctored!). Mum was pleased as while we were here her and Dad had a cream tea - I didn't, I don't really like them, so it was an interesting lemon curd cake for me! I wasn't complaining.
One thing that we noticed was that the paintings were so much better here than at Petworth. Admittedly a lot of them had been restored, but even those that hadn't were so much clearer.
The best bit had to be the long gallery which still had its original Tudor floor and walls, with very detailed carving. There was a lot of really good stuff in there really but photography was banned!
I am rather pooped after all this standing and slow walking. We might do a castle tomorrow to change things up a bit.
