Surrounded by bridges down here today. Not only the two seen here, but behind me they're constructing a complete replacement rail bridge a few yards from the old one, ready to move into place in a oner.

One other bridge, a much smaller and more wooden affair and slightly up river to the stone bridge on the right was the site of William Wallace and his army's famous victory over the English on this day in 1297. Over 5000 soldiers massacred after becoming trapped on a narrow causeway of land between the loops of the River Forth with nowhere to go. The English left Scotland after this, but returned less than a year later for some payback nearby at Falkirk. Then, hundreds of years later, an Australian made a film about it all.

More history here.
