h.Arts Stephen McRae artist blacksmith

What fun it was to come across blacksmith Stephen McRae at his back street workshop in Ledbury. He now creates smaller, affordable pieces having once made large scale sculptures for blue chip companies, and rock stars. He told us that his gallery had called him to say a large work had sold to a buyer in Henley on Thames, and could he deliver. Reluctant to do the 3-4 hours drive, he tried to get out of it. The gallery added to "It's for George Harrison..". Stephen happily agreed to deliver. Then on arrival, he was told where to put the sculpture in the large gardens and got to work, while chatting to the gardener. After a few minutes, he realised the gardener had a Liverpool accent... Yup, it was George.
Working in his small forge workshop, once the horse shoe forge behind a coach house hotel, with machines including a 150 year old power hammer, McRae is obviously a man happy with his work, life, and art.
Another great discovery found while out & about on Herefordshire Art Week, h.Arts.
