Policeman's helmet :-)
Remember that about two weeks ago I said there was not much in flower anymore in the wood where we are taking our daily walks? Well, I was wrong! There's a part of the wood where these flowers are blooming in abundance and they have all shades from deep magenta to pink to almost white. I had some trouble finding the name, but here it is: Impatiens glandulifera , in Dutch Reuzenbalsemien and Wikipedia says that in English "The common names Policeman's Helmet, Bobby Tops, Copper Tops, and Gnome's Hatstand all originate from the flowers being decidedly hat-shaped. Himalayan Balsam and Kiss-me-on-the-mountain arise from the fact that the plant originates in the Himalayan mountains.
The species name glandulifera comes from the Latin words glandis meaning 'gland', and ferre meaning 'to bear', in that the plant has glands that produce a sticky, sweet-smelling, and edible nectar."
