Our Journey is a process

We left my mother in law's house this morning to lots of rain. We decided to stop for breakfast at a restaurant that fellow blipper, raspberryjefe, recommended. As we drove to the restaurant, water was flowing in rivers down the streets. After breakfast, we had to wade across the street with water in our shoes to get to the car. Then, we drove through flooded streets to get to back to the freeway.

Once on the freeway, we had an easy journey over the mountains to Vail. The farther west we drove, the better the weather got. By the time we arrived in Vail, the sun was out and it was warm. After getting ourselves and the pups settled into our hotel room, we took a walk into town. Vail was hosting the International Fly Fishing Competition this weekend. Today they had a fly fishing target contest. This means that the fly fisherman must cast his fly into various rings set out at different distances and angles across the stream that runs through Vail. We stopped to watch and talk with some of the fly fishermen. Stephen is a fly fishing instructor and a judge for the competition. He explained the intricate technique of whipping the fly in order for put it right where he wants it to go.

As Stephen explained, his technique is actually an very old technique that he learned from his grandfather. It is different from techniques taught today. Because of his respect for older traditions, I decided to do this photo in black and white with a sepia filter. What do you think?

postscript: We are now learning that most of the area around Denver has received extremely heavy rain with severe flooding in most places. This doesn't bode well for the estate sale tomorrow at my mother in law's house.

also I am sorry I haven't been commenting much. Our broadband has not been working and my iPhone is very slow. I will catch up with you all soon.
