Steel Seal - Fingers Crossed!

We have not had our problems to seek recently, and believe me, we don't burden you with everything in this daily journal.

Recently, in the past 3 weeks, my car engine has been overheating. The mechanics found obvious faults ... there was a cracked inlet valve to my coolant tank for example, and this caused me to lose coolant every day. I've been topping up every morning. The engine temperature has repeatedly been hitting over 100c.

I went to two garages. They tried various things, but in the end, they both agreed that my head gasket had blown (one of them did a colour test on the engine and the liquid turned green. We could never see any leaks in the system (apart from the obvious inlet valve). We think that the coolant and water has been venting out the exhaust.

The two garages gave me an estimate for the head gasket cylinders to be skimmed .... one said £750, the other quoted £550 (big difference in price there). The cheaper garage also suggested we try this product .... "Steel Seal". It is supposed to guarantee results. Their info on the bottle states:

"Simply fixes blown head gaskets .. guaranteed!"

I've spoken with quite a few stockists of the product, and interestingly, they say that no one has gone back to the shop and complained. Also (and think about this one ... ), they sell a lot to garages! If this really works, then I think there are a lot of garages out there who are charging us £100s for a head gasket repair and simply pouring this stuff into our car.

You pour it in when the engine is cold. Start your engine, turn on your heating full blast, let the car idle for 1 hour, switch off .... cool down completely, and then (fingers crossed), drive away.

I'll let you know tomorrow how I get on.
