Frettage (or false brinelling)

Noticed a bit of excessive front wheel wobble on my singlespeed. Stripped the hub and bearings are shot. Not brinelling (which is one of my favourite engineeringy words alongside asperities) but frettage (ooh another one!).

I hate cup and cone bearings. Bearing technology has moved on, I think Mr Shimano, it's time you followed suit.

Re packed it with grease to keep it going over the next few days, but will order a nice Hope hub later. (British made with replaceable cartridge bearings.)

Found out why our tomato plants have mysteriously died. Everyone elses in the village have as well. Blight.
