If I only Had a Home!
I've the Honor to Volunteer with a group called Paws on Parole. Here in Alachua County, FL our Animal Services is under the Sheriffs Dept. So every 8 weeks a group of 8 dogs is chosen to work with the male inmates at the Work Camp and female inmates at the County Jail.
The Dogs live at the Camp/Jail and are trained in Basic Good Canine Behavior; sit, stay, walk on leash...10 Basic Skills necessary to pass the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen Test at the end of their training. At that time they are available for adoption. Folks literally line up to adopt them! Many communities have started their own programs modeled on Paws.
I play a very small part in this process. I handle dogs for them at their outings since the prisoners are not able to do so. I'm very proud to work with these Dedicated People and wonderful Dogs.
This is Scarecrow, aka Crow. He is one our Paws Dogs available for adoption. Want to know more?
