Navigating the "Ouse"

The above is well worth a read if you like local history.

This picture was taken today by me while crossing the High Street bridge in Lewes. I was reminiscing the flood of 2000 when the water mark rendered those locally to be needing assistance from the emergency services by helicopter, boat or hardy swimmers. A very frightening experience by all. Some losing livelihoods, cars, houses, pets and live stock.

My mind ventured back much further still though history incorporating the well rehearsed annual "November 5th Gunpowder plot" celebrations when the barrels of burning tar were rolled over the bridge into the dark oily waters of the river Ouse below.

Then of course there is the history of Henry IIIV and the dissolution of the towns monastery nearby.

And then of course there was today when with my dear friends I crossed the cobbles laughing and chatting and glancing down to see a beautiful and lucky "blip"
