A Country Churchyard

LARGE VIEW

I visited Leigh (Kent) Churchyard today and got into a conversation with a couple from Alabama, who were looking for evidence of their relatives amongst the gravestones. They (Mr & Mrs Merchant) promised to look me up on Blip, so I hope they recognise this picture.

I usually pay more attention to the photographic side of my visit, rather than reading inscriptions on the graves, which here go back to the 1700's. Today, I did both and found many poignant messages accompanying their deceased loved-ones.

All this put me in mind of a few lines from 'Dichterliebe' (a poets love) written by Heinrich Heine (1797-1856)

Ich hab' in Traum geweinet
Mir traümt', du lägest im Grab

I wept in my dream
I dreamt you lay in your grave

Hope you like the picture!
