After Rain Comes Sunshine
It was a very tough day on the IJsselmeer, the lake I sail on with the clipper.
It started with a nice wind of about 20-24 knots. But the weather forecast predicted possible wind gusts of 30 to 35 knots.
So we put a double reef in the mainsail and kept an eye on the clouds to spot weather changes. So we saw it coming. Gusts of wind of 34 knots. We immediately took down the jib so we could keep in control. After all, we do sail with guests.
But there was also a catamaran race. They were surprised by the extreme wind force. More than 30 of them capsized. Luckily nobody was hurt, but almost all the catamarans (and other ships in need) stranded on lee shore.
But in the evening, when we went out for a second trip, the weather cleared. It was a great evening and a beautiful ending of a impressive day.
