horns of wilmington's cow

A wee bit showery...

Despite the howling wind and occasional rain showers we headed out for a walk anyway, a loop just off the Golden Road, taking in a wee hill called Grosa Cleit, swinging back round on the 'Scholars Road', a fantastic slightly raised earth path cutting through the marsh and rocks.

Coming down from Grosa Cleit the promised stormy weather suddenly hit. Massive winds, rain, and then to top it all off, hail. Big, hard, heavy, wind-driven, painful hail. Silver linings? Sheltering we found what appeared to be an Eagle hang out, with a huge feather (the quill itself was almost a centimetre wide at the base), and a couple of pellets.

Naturally later on, with feet already soaked, the sun came out.

Still hopeful that on Wednesday the weather will be clear enough for us to go over to North Uist with the bikes to visit the RSPB reserve at Balranald; with Thursday morning being the only morning I can possibly have a chance of riding the Golden Road loop. But as expected, this cottage is a rather super place to recover and shelter in...
