BARTAILED GODWITS Limosa lapponica
Another featured Godwitt oday. I've taken them in this way as a lot of people want to know why the wading birds rest on one leg. The answer I believe is a very practical way of blending with the windy environment. if they rested on two legs they could blow over - the one legged method allows them to move with the wind like a weather vane. I know this because i've observed them a lot in both positions. I would also like to put one on the front of my Sailing boat as a weather vane -they're that good at changing direction on one leg. Well thats my theory does anyone have a different one. Oh' its not for resting as they each use the same leg all the time !!
