Popular car for the masses
Still trying to catch up last weeks blips but todays is of a lovely example of a Ford Pop, my dad had one of these in the early 70's and even though it was an old car and very basic it had a big old jallopy feel to it I thought I was part of the clampit clan coming down the road in it.
Come and listen to a story 'bout a man named Jed
Poor mountaineer barely kept his family fed
Then one day he was shooting for some food,
And up through the ground come a bubbling crude
(Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea)
Your humming the tune now aren't you - a blast from the past haha
The Ford Popular, often commonly called the Ford Pop, built between 1953 and 1962. When launched, it was Britain's lowest priced car but that price was for a reason developed as a post war budget alternative the first ones off the production line had a single vacuum powered wiper, no heater, vinyl trim and bumpers painted not chromed but they were £100 cheaper than an Anglia 100E, Austin A30 or Morris Minor, so really the choice was the Popular or a pre-war car because 1940's £100 is worth £4732 at today's prices.
More than 150,000 Populars were produced.
If you hanker for a bit of history good examples are turning over from £5000 to £8000 depending on condition and complete history
