Inspire: A finger pointing to the sky

Some time ago a friend educated me about church architecture. Prior to the reformation churches tended to have towers (you see lots of Norman churches in counties like Suffolk and Norfolk). After the reformation churches started to be built with spires. They are a finger pointing to the sky saying "The Lord Jesus is coming again with the clouds and with great glory. "
This spire is about a quarter mile from our home. Sadly few probably know the significance of something they see every day.
