Jubilee Fountain...

Sited in Albert Square outside Manchester Town Hall is the Jubilee Fountain, an hexagonal granite fountain with bronze decorative features. Commissioned in the Queen Victoria’s 60th year of reign, the fountain also commemorates the supply of Manchester’s drinking water from Thirlmere in the Lake District; a perfect example of Victorian engineering. Some thirty years after it was placed in the square, the fountain was moved to Heaton Park where over the next 70 years it fell into disrepair. It was returned to the square in 1997 following restoration.
