Walking in the Wicklow Mountains
A day of gusty gale force winds that made the clouds scurry across the sky casting great shadows as they passed. It also meant we had bright sunshine and occasional squally showers that made us shelter behind huge granite rocks and take refuge deep in a pine forest where it was like having a Radox bath with the smell of pines.
We were lucky enough to see a deer and it's young bambi just munching away.
This is a view looking to Glendalough and those who know the area will be able to spot Kevin's tower. St Kevin came to Glendalough in the 5th Century and lived in a cave as a hermit. A few like minded people joined him and a monastery grew up in Glendalough and now it is a place of pilgimage. Certainly there were lots of different nationalities visiting the site.
St Kevin lived until he was 107 and such was his love of nature that while he was praying a blackbird laid an egg in his hand and he did not move until the egg hatched. As the guide book says there must have been divine intervention!
Kevin's tower is the needle like looking thin tower in the valley beyond the second lake and can be seen if you view the photo large.
