The challenge

A bunch of jaded people, old in spirit more than in age, looking for a break rather than some learning. Some trying but stumbling on their own negative thinking, some overconfident not trying at all. Some pleasnt company some doing their best to be annoing. And obviously some just in between.

I'm trying to describe them and I fail to capture what I felt today while teaching 4 groups of addults in the big new fancy headquarters of a very successfull company. So, what was it that impressed me? For once the huge difference between the message conveyed by the expensive modern building and the attitude of the employees I met, and secondly, more important for my teaching, the complete lack of motivation that I sensed in my students.

I tryed to remember if CELTA prepared us for this ... well we talked about keeping people motivated, but we assumed that they wanted to be there in the first place and that their level of motivation decreased at times for various reasons. The difference from our CELTA students is huge. I can clearly remember the light in the eyes of most of them after more than a month...

It's going to be a very different challenge than the one I was expecting but nevertheless an interesting challenge.

P.S. Taking a foto every day seems to be also an interesting challenge
