Notre Dame
Notre Dame de Royan that is. Royan was the last part of France to be occupied by the Germans in WWII. To dislodge them the allies carpet bombed the town and nearly all the belle époque buildings were razed. So there was a competition to design a replacement town plan.
The result is constructed in concrete giving a "Marmite" result. I love it but others think its grim. But there is no denying that the massive church is a very impressive space. the trouble is, the concrete is deteriorating and is continually having to be repaired.
