Onwards North!
So we left Altandu after climbing to the top of the hill nearby which was covered in little cairns, the hill giving a superb viewpoint over the stretch of sea to the nearby Summer Islands. This is another gorgeous spot that would love to return to and spend longer exploring.
We took a left before Ullapool and drove along the "wee mad road" to Lochinver. I was glad we were in a smaller campervan and this certainly was a mad road. This was a road of passing places, not wide enough for two vehicles to pass and was very entertaining to say the least. We arrived in Lochinver, and decided to go to a famous pie restaurant that served every type of pie imaginable, sweet and savoury, and we both chose the haggis, neeps and tatties pie. Mmmmmmm.
Arrived at Clachtoll Caravan site, again situated on the beach but the weather was a bit closed in here, but we had a wander along the beach and then climbed up the hill overlooking the beach, which was again a white sandy beach. Just as we arrived there a wee group of 5 highland coos were wandering home across the beach and they made a great sight, just making it back before the tide came in blocking them from their evening pasture.
Another gorgeous spot, but we looked at the weather forecast for the west coast for the rest of the week and made a decision to head east next day as the weather looked better over on that coast.
