Rhododendron “Frangrantissimum”.
After Googling how to spell the name of this Rhododendron, I found out that it is one of the better known fragrant rhododendrons. PJ & I were given this by friends back in 1996. Alison had a wonderful established garden and I had often admired this tree there.
The plant, when it arrived, wasn't very big, and only had a couple of scraggly branches. I carefully planted it, and told PJ where it was. It flowered after a while with a couple of big flower heads. But not long after that PJ was using the scrub cutter up around the garden. As far as he is concerned, all plants are weeds.
Unfortunately, after his efforts, I found that the two branches were now very short, stubby bits, about 8 inches long, if that. I could only hope that a good “pruning” would do it good.
Yes, it did. It is now quite a nice sized bush. Just over a metre high and across, and has a wonderful display of flowers every year.
