DYSART

Dysart is a small port which has existed since the C13th, on the river Forth, becoming
significant in C15th for trading salt and coal with the Baltic Countries. At about that time it achieved Burgh status but as commerce fluctuated it became a suburb of its neighbour Kirkcaldy and in 1930 was amalgamated into the Royal Burgh of Kirkcaldy.
However it retains an independence of spirit and exhibits still architectural glances to proud and significant past so --- "Up wi' the Carls o' Dysart!"--- a folk song associated with collections of song by Robert Burns.
