Three for the price of one!

When C and I were in Edinburgh last Saturday to see the Great Scottish Tapestry, we were sorry that the HG was otherwise engaged as we thought he would love to see it. So today, the HG and I made the trip (again) to Edinburgh.

We walked up to the Museum of Scotland, and had a bit of lunch there, then separated. I was keen to see the Mary Queen of Scots Exhibition, and the HG headed down the Royal Mile to the Parliament Buildings to see the Tapestry.

I enjoyed the Mary Queen of Scots Exhibition. I like history, but have always had trouble putting the dates in order, and this helped. Lots of info about Mary, and lots of info about the Houses of Stewart, Hanover, Saxe Coburg (becoming the House of Windsor). Very enlightening. Her story is very tragic, and her words 'In my end is my beginning' seem most appropriate, as so much has been written about her, and her son was the King who united the crowns of Scotland and England.

When I left the exhibition the HG was still only halfway round the Tapestries, and having a fine time, so I headed up Calton Hill. It was a grand day, nice and sunny and not at all cold, with a little, but not a lot, of breeze. It was busy with tourists, and I wandered around with my camera. I took quite a few pictures, but I liked this one.

I give you three for one; to the left of my picture is Holyrood Palace, the Queen's official residence while in Edinburgh. And you can see Arthur's Seat, together with the Salisbury Crags, famous Edinburgh landmarks, and a really nice climb up.
So that's the three. If you look carefully you get a bonus as the Scottish Parliament is in there too somewhere.

Got a phone call from the HG that he was finished and heading up the Royal Mile, so met him at the North Bridge and we had a quick coffee before heading home.

This is better in large mode.
