The Crane
Three radio and one tv interview today. Started with BBC Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland programme and ended with STV, with two other radio interviews in-between.
After finishing the STV interview I walked down behind the building to the side of the Clyde just across from the Finnieston Crane and the new Hydro building. It is a fascinating juxtaposition of engineering from different centuries.
Interestingly enough I think the first time the word crane was used in Scotland to describe a man made crane as opposed to the bird was in the epic poem The Brus by John Barbour. In the poem it says;
"A crane thai haiff gert dres up hey
rynnand on quheillis that thai mycht bring
it quhar that nede war of helping..."
Which roughly means a crane that has been lifted up on high, running on wheels that they could bring anywhere that they needed help.
