Cafe Mistblick - The original
This sign was painted by a certain Jill from Munich, niece of our friends Christa & Michi, and is dated around 1995/6. Christa & Michi had bought an old farmhouse in Oberostendorf (Upper East Village) at around the same time as we moved from Munich to Grosskitzighofen (Big Fawn Yard), both properties just 20 minutes drive apart, and of course both pairs moved with their two horses. Jill painted the sign for Michi & Christa as their terrace overlooked the stables and the horse's muck heap. Mistblick translated as Muck Heap View.
When a few years later, Michi & Christa moved back to Munich, they were going to throw away the sign and I quickly grapped it. It now hangs on a sliding window in our horse stable which we can open to feed the horses hay in the adjoining building, a sort of field shelter which the horses can go in/out of as they want during the day. Next to this is the muck heap.
Some of the muck lands as compost in the garden, out of which we have flowers from which the bees get nectar and pollen and so the somewhat dubious link. I have always loved Jill's painting and the Cafe name!
