Kookaburra

Arrived at the villa in Perth Hills which has a superb view over the whole of Perth.

We couldn't believe our luck when this stunning friendly Kookaburra appeared on the decking and let us feed him and take photos close up of him. He was there for about 20 minutes lapping up our attention.

Kookaburras (genus Dacelo) are terrestrial tree kingfishers native to Australia and New Guinea. They are large to very large, with a total length of 28–42 cm.

Kookaburras are best known for their unmistakable call, which sounds uncannily like loud, echoing human laughter.
