Read when it rains

The newspapers these days have been raising two different concerns - one being the possibility of drought due to sparse rains this monsoon, and the other is swine flu. One of them is legitimate.

Large numbers of farmers have committed suicide. These are recurring sad events in this country. But today evening it has been pouring. Rather unexpectedly, I must say. It began in the afternoon and after a few brief stoppages, has resumed. I do hope it continues, despite the roads not being capable of coping with rain.

The monsoon season is usually a good time to pick up a book and enjoy it in the dry indoors.
