Reunion
This weekend saw a gathering of pupils at my school 40 years after we left. All organised with the help of technology by Alan from Australia. Nearly 60% of the year turned up and we spent the evening catching up, comparing how gravity, ageing and the good life had had their impact on us all. Some have fared better than others! A few of our year are no longer with us. One or two have had heart attacks. Some have already retired. A couple had travelled from the Antipodes. One from Orkney. But most based on the UK mainland, and many back on home ground in Edinburgh. A most enjoyable night , especially as some of our teachers were present to take part in the proceedings. This was our chaotic attempt to recreate the 6th form photo. What was more disconcerting was a description of assembly talks in 1972-3 where I was down for speaking about the resettlement of immigrants. As a title it is rather bleak - I do recall speaking about the integration of the Chinese and Polish communities in Edinburgh! But that's not how the title might be interpreted.
