Breakfast in Kingston

My day has not gone according to plan. Luke realised that his phone contract had expired and so was due for an upgrade, and as the contract is in my name (as he is under 18) I had to go to the store with him to get it sorted. I am amazed at the brilliant service we got, and have always got, from Carphone Warehouse. They told him that for this weekend only he could upgrade his phone to the new iphone 5S and for only a third of the usual upgrade cost. It was a no brainer as to go for the deal or not. However, they had no stock of these phones so they checked which store had the most stock and within minutes we were driving to Kingston to get the phone, before they ran out of stock.

I managed this quick photo of everyone enjoying breakfast outdoors in the market square. No time for me to have coffee and enjoy this scene, we had to get the phone sorted! Despite the dull day I liked the colours and the fact that they could sit outside as it was not cold.

After more brilliant service from the staff there, Luke came out smiling with his new phone. It made me think about how this generation are so into digital technology. The record breaking sales of the new Grand Theft Auto game are testament to that. I have also just read an article about a British movie director who has made a film about how smartphones and the internet have changed the lives of ordinary teenagers. Her subjects included a boy who lost his place at Oxford because of his addiction to gaming, and a girl who allowed herself to be sexually assaulted by a gang of thieves so that she could get her Blackberry back. Makes you think, doesn't it, whether this new digital era has enhanced our lives or not.
