Rippingale Station

This engine belongs to a friend who has owned the old Station at Rippingale for many years. A railway enthusiast, he is a member and volunteer of the Nene Valley Railway, and keeps his engine on the short stretch of original line beside the platform, next to the Station in which he and his wife live.

Rippingale was on the Great Northern Railway and the single route opened for goods in 1871. It opened for passengers in 1872 and passenger services were withdrawn in 1930 although Special Excursion trains continued to call at the station, in particular a train to the Festival of Britain in 1951. The line closed completely to goods in 1965.

The village has recently lost the Post Office, village shop, village school and Doctors' surgery. Nowadays, if you live in the village and don't own a car, you could feel pretty isolated as we now have an extremely limited bus service, which is reduced even more during school holidays. However we are a very close, friendly and actively helpful community - thankfully!
