The Glass Castle

The glass "castle" is the Pittsburgh Plate Industries (formerly known as Pittsburgh Plate Glass or PPG) in downtown Pittsburgh. The PPG complex covers 6 city blocks. Pictured here is the main building which is 40 stories high. There is another 14 story building and four 6 story buildings.

Combined, there is over 1 million square feet of PPG Solarban glass (19,750 pieces) covering these buildings. They glass is designed to reflect summer heat and nfrared heat is redirected in during the colder months. In addition, heat from computers is recycled through the buildings making this place pretty energy efficient.

The design of this building was partially inspired by London's Victoria tower. If you are ever in Pittsburgh, you should definitely check this place out.
