Harvest / Waiting

Today was the harvest service at church, but instead of massive displays of fruit and veg, the church had decided to run a 'tea service. We met at 3:30 instead of 10:30 and after singing some harvest hymns/songs shared a savouries and cakes together. Part of the service included watching a short video clip of the work that BMS World Mission are undertaking in Northern Uganda. Here, because of recent fighting, many people have lost their lands and with no land they can't grow food to eat and sell and thus have no means of support for themselves and their families. You can find out more about the project to help them get their lands back here.

After this we had arranged to meet some friends at Heathrow, who were in transit from a holiday in Italy back to the USA and overnighting at a hotel local to Heathrow. We left Swindon with plenty of time to get there to meet them at Terminal 5. But we had not reckoned on the number of delays on the M4 due to the weight of traffic travelling East. So while we waited, or dawdled, in queues on the M4 we watched our expected arrival time creep up and then well past their planned arrival time. But we did get there only to find their flight had been delayed. I think they probably touched down just a couple of minutes after we arrived. That was good as it meant we were in time to wait at the barrier to meet them, rather than have them turn up and have to wait for us to arrive.

We had a great (but all to short) time of chatting over a meal in a local pub, before dropping them at their hotel and hitting the M4 for the journey back home. Thankfully by now the motorway was almost empty.

So today's blip photo is of the arrivals board just after we arrived - not very photogenic, but very useful none-the-less.
