Kowhai

Sophora, this one is a New Zealand native. My tree is loaded with flowers, the most it has ever had. Bunches of flowers are hung up all over the tree so thick you hardly notice that the leaves haven't opened yet. These ones are hanging low enough to get close to.

Nectar loving birds with their long brush tongues seem to do well with the long flowers, but others have found a shortcut by poking a hole in the top. The ground is littered with bright yellow damaged blooms.
