Black Prince and Queens

Working again in Halifax but took the train to Leeds to chair an evening board meeting for a local charity.

This was the scene in City Square around 7:30 pm tonight as I was heading for the train.

In 1897, the Leeds city council of the time wanted to improve the open space near to the (Old) Post Office and in 1899 work  to form the square was completed. City Square was enhanced with the erection of statues, the grandest being the Black Prince on horseback in bronze by Thomas Brock.

The elegant  Art Deco Grade II Queens Hotel is in the background. It was re-modelled and re-constructed in 1937
