Last fruits of the season ?

Proof that autumn is almost imminent ? One of our many trees bearing its fruit, ready for the seasons end :( On a sombre note, this tree has the pigeons nesting in it, no parent there so I had a quick peek, and nothing !!!!! No eggs, young or egg shell remains ??? Puzzled I am ?????? Where and what happened to them ??
