Under the vine

This is where the 'ladies' sit every day and every evening, under the vine and in the thoroughfare, next to Amanda's house and her mural of all her neighbours. The ladies are all in their late 70s and 80s, went to school together, holiday together and sort the world to rights together, often until 1.00 in the morning. Their husbands sometimes join in too.

Cinta, 80, one of the ladies, talks of how the villagers hid in the mountains during the civil war when the village came under attack and of how both her parents and a brother were shot leaving her at 7 years old to care for her younger brother. She quietens as she tells the tale, briefly, before livening up for a photo and flashing her bra to the camera!
